Safe Place was established as a non-profit agency in 1997.
We work toward empowering victims and their families to break the cycle of domestic violence. Understanding that domestic violence impacts everyone, we work to increase community awareness and understanding of the problem.
We provide shelter and direct services for victims and their children in Pike County, Kentucky. Prior to the formation of our emergency shelter, victims of domestic violence had to obtain shelter services in other counties. This frequently resulted in the victim remaining in an abusive relationship rather than leaving the familiarity of their community.
Safe Place is powered by dedicated volunteers that are committed to making a difference in the lives of women and children in Pike County that are victims of domestic violence.
State and Federal funding for our project is limited therefore, we are dependent upon support from local sources: civic groups, religious groups, businesses, private citizens, and governments. Income is also generated locally by various fund raising events.
